In 1979 when Nancy & Tom McGrath opened Tipperary at Tara, it
was their intention to ensure that our customers would receive full
value for every dollar they spent. Nearly thirty years, that is
still the ethic they apply.
A thousand years ago the rulers of Ireland had a similar idea, at the annual festival at Tara in Co. Meath,
seat of the Irish High Kings, the best work of Ireland's finest artisans was awarded the privilege to carry the mark
of the "great hall". The term "hallmark" comes from this practice, the
very best. At Tipperary we carry the very best that Ireland has to offer. You can be sure that if it comes
from Tipperaty at Tara it is the best quality and value for your money available.
As our business has grown, our reputation for service and quality
has spread beyond anything that we could have imagined. We are very
proud of that, we do not take it for granted, and work at it everyday.
At Tipperary at Tara, customers are friends and are treated so. We
have come to know several generations of customers. A very large number of our customers
are customers because they came to Tipperary with their parents as children and now
bring their own children. We like that (as long as they behave that is).
Today when visitors review our ever present "guest book", they see
names and comments about our shop from folks who travel from far and wide to shop at
Tipperary at Tara. We are blessed with customers who drive an
average of 50 miles each way. The register shows entries from
Buffalo, NY to Boston, MA, from Poughkeepsie to Plattsburgh and
many states and foreign countries. Comments from "WOW", to "very
friendly", "old fashioned service", "will be back often", and our
favorite, "Oh my god why have I been shopping at..." are not
unusual.
The Tipperary at Tara mailing list keeps growing and contacts by
e-mail increase every day. We pack and ship orders by UPS and USPS as well.
The Tara "Wedding Registry" is another feature. We keep this as
simple and friendly as possible. Personal service has and will
continue to be our business practice.
Our business is a family business, your family and ours. We will
continue to assist our customers to express their good taste in gift
selection, and to provide them the very finest items for their
personal use.

O'Day Bros. Irish Grocery
Among the most
popular features of Tipperary at Tara, is O’Day Bros. Founded in 1839
at 33 Egbert Street in Cohoes, NY by Great Grand Dad, John O'Day. O'Day Bros. operated at that location
for 110 years until Nana had to lock the doors during Uncle Mike's illness. Now inside Tipperary this
store, within the store, features a complete line of Irish
groceries. Irish sausage (bangers) and bacon (rashers) lead
a line of products that include Irish Cheese, McCanns
Oatmeal, Jacob's Biscuits, Boland's cookies, Digestives, canned goods,
Bewley's Irish Creme coffee, jams, sauces, soda and brown bread mix,
flour, sugar, Irish candy bars and over 30 types of
Tea. The first 110 years in Cohoes, and now in
Brunswick, what is really cool is customers who grew up with the Cohoes store continue to shop O'Day Bros.
today at Tipperary. Put O'Day Bros. on your list of places to go. Also check
our Guinness Gear Department at Patrick McGrath's Pub, in the shop as
well! Great Grand Dad on the McGrath side in the early 20th century had 6 Pubs located in Troy and
Green Island.
As you can see our family has a long tradition on serving the Irish in America
and we look forward to meeting you.
